Sensory Exploration
Programme Overview
With all the visual excitements in the city, sometimes we may unconsciously numb our senses when relating to our surroundings. When was the last time you smelled the scents of Hong Kong, “Fragrant Harbour”? Join us for an olfactory journey for an intimate exploration of the city. We will start with a gentle yoga session to come back to the present, and wake up our five senses. With the awakened sensitivity in the body, we will go on a sensory journey to explore the city. From curry fishballs, cosmetic fragrance, moist soil, to car exhaust and discarded cardboards… each smell paints a distinct dimension of the cityscape, usually left unnoticed. Let your nose take the lead, a surprising rendezvous may be right around the corner. Let the nose take us on a deeper knowing within ourselves, and with our surroundings. With that, new possibilities emerge.

Guest Curator
Maggie Lin
Curator Bio
Inspired to cultivate mindful “connections”, Maggie teaches yoga, mindfulness and creates sensory experiences. She is the creative force behind “nose hk”, a pop-up city perfumery she cofounded, focused on smell and memories. Through sensory experiences, she invites people to be fully present, open up the senses to explore connections within, with each other and with the environment. The beginning of her body-mind journey started ten years ago, writing her master thesis on yoga.
Curator's Note
Bringing a piece of clothing close to the nose for a sniff -- my mum’s way of deciding whether it needs washing. I tease her, but it has also become a habit of mine. Our senses are our first doors to the world: to understand the surroundings, detect danger, and they have deep connections to emotions. Living in the city, such intimate bodily wisdom is often overlooked, and senses sometimes numbed. The busyness of the urban life may seem like it is rushing us: through experiences, people, life. This is also an invitation to pause, and explore deeply, fully. Look forward to our exploration, to renew connections: within, with others, and with the city.
